I've helped DOZENS of people plan their Product Launches and there are several mistakes that I see occurring over and over.

Baffled! Idiot Advertisers!!

Baffled!

As an Authority on Product Launches, I'm oftentimes just totally baffled at the concurrent mistakes I see online marketers making.

I rarely watch television except for the occasional viewing of a couple specific programs that I enjoy.  When I do watch TV, I always mute the commercials.  And............I'm an advertising guy!

Television commercials inherently annoy the hell outta me, primarily because they elect to increase their volume to broadcast their ads.

I chose long ago not to be yelled at (RIP Billy Mays), so the muting habit has been long lived.

It’s oftentimes comical because when my grandkids are here, they mute the commercials for me.  Even they are acutely aware of my disdain for the ridiculous acceptance of broadcasters to allow their advertisers to increase the decibel levels.

I’m an ad guy.  I’m a marketing guy.  I think I now understand how this area advertises………only local, only on TV!  I should have begun watching television when we first moved here.  I would have known so much more about the area and its offerings.

I always search online for everything I’m looking for first, which continues to prove disastrous here.  For some reason unbeknownst to me, local businesses are advertising on television and not doing anything about Internet Marketing.  Why do so few misunderstand the term “reach”?

So, I’m watching the evening news tonight and a commercial touting “Wise Guys Cologne” came on.  I was intrigued by the wise guy theme and left the mute button alone.  Their advertisement is slick and clever; yet I’m amazed to see that level of TV ad expenditure for their product which clearly has a world market, but not any world wide marketing……….only local.

Wise Guy Cologne is a niche market that could easily be enormously fortuitous for them if they marketed it WORLD WIDE.

You know me, I had to investigate further.  I soooooooo want to understand why so few understand online marketing.  The cologne ad has a telephone number to call if you want order, as well as their website address.  Their website is ONE PAGE!  (Martin had to pick me up off the floor).

Their website has no ranking, no SEO, no standard foundations that will ever allow them out of the sandbox.  You cannot order from their website either, but again they offer their telephone number to phone your order in.  I'm baffled!

They do however; have a very cool video (same cool commercial I saw on TV) on that one page site, which I believe was produced by Kaminsky Productions. (More on them in a bit).

Their site is static, but not nearly as garbled as their parent company site.  The title of their one page site states their new cologne is from Wise Guys Cologne - from OG Originals.  Got that?.....Originals.  There are NO originals.  There is an OG Original…………..no s.  It appears to be a minor detail, but it is huge!

OG Original has been online since 07-Aug-2003 and still has NO ranking.

Can I spell dumbfounded?

The Kaminsky Productions site is very cool looking; they clearly do amazing video and production work.

Site design or SEO….I don’t think so.  Their site has been online since 13-Dec-1996 Traffic Rank  of 11,947,986.

They are still in the sandbox, they have no visibility online.  They will always be in the sandbox, it's far too late to even attempt an escape.  I would advise for them to start over again...........from the very beginning.  It's poor Product Launch Planning that realllllllllllllllllly irritates me - It's so simple!

I would like to try some Wise Guys cologne, but I’m not phoning in my order……….in this day and age????  I think whoever owns this fragrance niche is missing the marketing mark.  That niche would sell world wide………… but not by phone.

Would someone please tell me that I don't have to watch television?!

 I will still mute commercials.

Stay Tuned Up,

Dale
